LERIDA. (Province capital , Spain)
First notice of Theas surname in Spain dates from 1688 in Arbeca, with confirmation of the sons of Joan Theas (unknown origin) and Gertrudis Guash born in Pont de Armentera, Tarragona province.
Sons of this family went to Lerida afterwards, losing the surname after two generations.

TORREGROSSA. (Village in the Lerida province, Spain)
Another branch starts in Torregrossa, by Joan Theas (unknown origin) and Elena Gili from Alcarras. This couple of tailors came to Torregrossa nearly 1703, with a daughter.
First births and deceases get registered as 'Teas', 'Theas' or 'Théas'; it's not unusual, considering that 'h' is a mute letter, and punctuation is not always respected. First registers of the name 'Theas' appear between 1819 and 1830. This one gets more and more common, and remains as the only version after 1850.
In this way, 'Tehas' was created as an orthographic variant from 'Theas', starting in Torregrossa, and expanding after to the Lleida and Barcelona provinces.
